Research Areas

Atomic Spectroscopy:

Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICPAES). Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (FAAS). Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (ETAAS). Hydride generation and Cold Vapor techniques (CVAAS). On-line systems and automatic chemical analysis. Micro X-ray fluoresence techniques for non-destructive analysis.

Hyphenated techniques and Mass Spectrometry.

Gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GCMS) or microwave plasma atomic emission spectrometry (GCMIPAED). Liquid Chromatography with mass spectrometry (LCMS, LCITTOFMS).   

Speciation:

Speciation methods for metals and organometallic species. Determinations of metals and metal species with biomolecules (metallomics) and natural substances.

Determination of metals:

method development for the determination of heavy and toxic metals in various matrices and samples like archaeological, pharmaceutical, ground, sediments, plants, animal tissues, marine organisms, foods, biological liquids, surface and drinkable waters, wastewaters, industrial materials, alloys, etc. Determination of organometallic compounds by hyphenated techniques.

Sample pretreatment:

 Wet acid digestions. Microwave and conventional decomposition techniques. Liquid liquid extraction. Solid phase extraction. Headspace Solid phase microextraction. Comparative procedures.

Chemometrics:

Statistical analysis in Analytical Chemistry (Chemometrics) (Analysis of Variance, Regression Analysis, Cluster Analysis, Principal Component Analysis, Factorial Designs, Experimental Design, Optimization) in the optimisation and evaluation of methods, treatment of analytic data that results from methods of chemical analysis.
