Lykakis Ioannis

Dr. Ioannis Lykakis studied chemistry at the University of Crete (1997), Greece and after obtaining his Ph.D. from the same University in 2003, he did postdoctoral research at the CNR in Bologna, Italy, under Marie Curie Network fellow, with the supervision of Dr. Chryssostomos Chatgilialoglu. In 2011 he was appointed as a Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, where he is currently a Professor.

He has contributed to 3 book chapters in international scientific books, 1 scientific book as editor, 2 book chapters in Organic Chemistry Book and 1 book as Co-Editor of the book “Introduction to Spectroscopy”. He has also coordinated two special issues, the “Noble Metal Nanoparticles in Catalysis” in Nanomaterials (ISSN 2079-4991), and the “Photocatalysis and Free Radicals in Organic Synthesis” in Organics (ISSN 2673-401X).

He is member of the American Chemical Society and of the Editorial Board of Organics-MDPI and Αssociate Εditor at Frontiers Green and Sustainable Chemistry.

Research

His research interests are focused on Organic Synthesis, Catalysis and Photocatalysis in Green Organic transformations and on the developement of (i) Organic Redox Transformations Catalyzed by Metal Nanoparticles (NPs) and Polyoxometalates (POMs), ii) Organocatalytic Methodologies and Mechanistic Studies οn the Synthesis of Heterocyclic Biological Active Molecules, and iii) Photo-catalytic Organic Processes and Mechanistic Studies.

So far, he is the author of more than 85 publications in peer reviewed journals and he has given more than 100 presentations in national and international conferences-meetings. His published work has received more than 2400 citations (Scopus) and his h-index is 31 (Googgle Scholar). (ORCID ID: https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8165-5604).

He had supervised 6 postdocs, 6 PhD and 18 MSc Thesis, as well as more than 30 BSc thesis.

He has coordinated and participate as Co-Pi in a series of European and Greek research programs with a total budget of over 2Μ€.

He has been awarded by the Academy of Athens in 2012 for the best research paper in the field of organic chemistry and awarded by the Empeirikeion Foundation of Athens in 2018 for the financial support of his scientific research. Awarded with Excellent teaching 2022, from the
